Classes and Coaching

  • Actor Training (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)

    The meat and potatoes of the craft. Everything from the basics of listening and responding to honing your ability to be your most truthful in imaginary circumstances. We are supported by Dr. Luckett’s Black Acting Methods, Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, and selections from various others.

    Levelled classes are ongoing, so students can enroll at any time. Each student enrolls for a six week session. Towards the end of the six week enrollment session, the student and instructor will converse about reenrollment or advancement as dictated by the students needs. Currently , all actor training class levels meet simultaneously at Annoyance Theatre. Not sure what level to jump in at? Just ask and we'll help sort it out!

  • Stage Combat and Intimacy Training

    Swinging swords and stealing (consensually) kisses! This class will cover basic techniques needed to create a safe and effective fights and intimate moments for the stage. Students learn the basics of unarmed stage combat, falling, grappling, punches, kicks, etc. along with consent-based practices for stage kisses, embraces, gestures. Safety comes first, with attention will be paid on how to connect stage combat and intimacy techniques to text, character and intention. Advanced stage combat includes broadsword, short sword and shield, and knife attacks, defenses, and footwork.

  • Audition/Monologue Preparation (available virtually!)

    All you need to be ready for your next audition! Whether you’re learning a new monologue or dusting off an old one, this course will help you polish, refine, and rediscover. We can also help you sus out what pieces would be good for you! One hour minimum.

  • Shakespeare

    Taking the fear out of approaching the Bard’s work. Learn the basics of scansion, prose, verse, and the differences between “my lord/lady” and “m’lord/lady”. We offer ourselves not as self-proclaimed experts, but as explorers.

  • Dialect Work (available virtually!)

    Need to learn how to nail that accent? Look no further. Working with resonance, tone, pitch, placement in the mouth, and more, we’ll break down those funny sounds in ways we can understand before putting them back together. One hour minimum.

  • Artist/Organizational Consultation (available virtually!)

    Whether trying to market yourself as an actor or get audience members to see your shows, a little help can go a long way. One hour minimum.
